Akilaria Class 40
The boat is an AKILARIA Class 40, the new generation Class 40 racing monohull, designed by MARC
LOMBARD, well known in racing circles as the designer of the Open 60 SILL and BONDUELLE, two
successful pariticipants in the 2004 2005 Vendée Globe and the 2006 Route du Rhum ocean races.
The AKILARIA Class 40 is built exclusively at the new Franco-German boatyard called MC-TEC, located in Tunisia, and distributed
worldwide by
KERVILOR VANEK, located in France. Two of these boats, ATAO and KNAUF INDUSTRIES,
performed very well in the most recent Route du Rhum.

On the design side, the hull shape and the appendages of this "Class 40" are the result of long hours of research and computer
modeling. The end result is fantastic - offering a compromise between power and an exceptionally low drag while all the while preserving
stability and maneouverability.
The sail plan, the largest permitted by the class rules, includes carbon spars and a "racing" quality set of Elvström sails.
The deck, influenced by the form of the most recent Open 60s, has a cockpit with lines leading to the helm station, an ergonomic comfort,
and a high level of security, thanks to the roomy cockpit and the roof extension that offers two protected watch stations. The liferaft
is easily accessible.
As for the appendages, the steel keel and the lead bulb have a smooth finish, and a fast shape. The rudder shape is
the result of much research and testing, and the pair of rudders are suspended below the stern for easy adjustment and for top performance,
thanks to the
water flow off of the stern section.
Inside, this first "cruising" layout below deck has 4 berths, a double berth in the forward
cabin (optional), and a true galley and nav station area - all countermolded to save weight.
